Lewiston native Anthony “David” Velarde had an on-screen appearance at this month’s Cannes Film Festival in France.

Velarde has a small role in a fight scene in the independent film “Cold Sun” made by Alaska filmmaker Isaac Medeiros. Set in the 1920s, the film follows a prostitute, an excommunicated priest, two escaped convicts and a movie director who meet in the California desert in a twisted tale of obsession, greed and betrayal. The movie was shot in Simi Valley, Calif., in July of 2015, Velarde said.

Velarde is a 1998 graduate of Lewiston High School and 2008 graduate of the University of Idaho where he discovered acting classes. Other credits include “Grimm” and “Portlandia.” He lives in Portland.
