Lewiston- and Clarkston-area AmeriCorps alums will commemorate Sept. 11's Day of Service and Remembrance by sponsoring a bowl painting evening. The bowls will be sold as part of the annual Soup-Port our Shelter fundraiser. This is a family-friendly event, so all ages are welcomed to show off their artistic talents. Soup-Port our Shelter brings together local businesses and volunteers to raise funds for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. Next year’s event is planned for Feb. 28. More information is at ywcaidaho.org/events/soupport-our-shelters. The National Day of Service and Remembrance is a day to honor the victims and heroes of the 9/11 attacks. It was designated by Congress in 2001 as Patriot Day and in 2009 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance following the Edward Kennedy Serve America Act. AmeriCorps Alums are a network of 1.3 million people who addressed their communities’ most pressing needs through service and continue to inspire others to serve.
