African American Read-In

The University of Idaho Africana Studies Program collaborates with the UI Library for this event. The Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English created the Read-In in 1990 to encourage communities to read together, centering African American books and writers to create a larger audience for African American authors and to celebrate African American literature. The UI Read-In’s honorary first reader will be (Bex) Rebekah Cornog, UI student and ASUI’s first Black, female senator. Participants can sign up to read or recite for two to five minutes. To reserve a spot, email janson@uidaho.edu or sign up at the event. There will be door prizes and refreshments. Following the read-in, the Black/African American Cultural Center will celebrate its first anniversary, BAACC Director Mario Pile, the UI Black History Research Lab and Ms. Cornog’s service to ASUI. That celebration will be at 2 p.m. at the BAACC in the ISUB 305.
