Over 32 years, the University of Idahos Auditorium Chamber Music Series has brought some of the worlds most notable musicians to the Palouse.
New York Citys JACK Quartet performs tonight as part of the series, a staple of UIs music program under the direction of UI Professor Leonard Garrison. Musical America Worldwide recently named the classical string group its Ensemble of the Year for 2019.
The JACK Quartet is the American musical group of the moment, Garrison said. We didnt know when we booked them that they would receive this honor. Its quite something for a group like this to travel to a smaller town.
He believes the quartet deserves the reputation they have achieved.
Theyre a young group, and theyre always doing something creative, he said.
The quartet, which works with a wide variety of contemporary composers of different backgrounds, is active in New York City and tours worldwide.
Besides tonights concert, the quartet will participate in a four-day residency and in the Palouse Chamber Music Workshop, which is presented as part of the series each January.
