Most of us have never stopped the blade of a box fan with our tongue, never mind attempted to set a world record doing so.
For Moscow native Brad Byers it’s all in a day’s work. Byers will attempt a world record for the most box fans stopped with his tongue at 7 p.m. Friday at the Lewis-Clark State College Silverthorne Theater in Lewiston. The event is free and open to the public.
Byers has assembled 10 box fans, 20 inches in size or larger. The fans have metal blades and the grills guarding them have been removed. Byers will demonstrate the strength of the blades and motors by using the blades to cut a pencil prior to stopping the blades with his tongue.
Byers holds a similar record for stopping eight metal-bladed desk fans with his tongue. There are individuals who hold similar records, Byers said in a phone interview, but not with metal-bladed box fans. The Record Holders Republic is the record organization approving this record. This month Byers received the world record for longest time balancing a banknote on the nose with a time of 2 minutes and 22 seconds. If he is successful with Friday’s attempt, he will hold 64 world records with a variety of record-holding organizations. He is known for his extreme performances, including putting 10 27-inch-long swords down his esophagus at one time.
