Labor Day has come and gone, the season’s festivals are winding down, the region’s outdoor swimming pools are closing for the season and the music scene is moving indoors. I sense a disturbance in our summer. Ah well.
Sept. 7
Metal band Vicious Rumors, on its 30th anniversary tour, will make a stop in Lewiston Sept. 7 at the 3rd Wheel events center. The doors open at 6 p.m.
The band, founded in 1979, is based in San Francisco. Current members are Geoff Thorpe (guitars, vocals), Larry Howe (drums, vocals), Tilen H. (bass, vocals), Gunnar DüGrey (guitars) and Nick Courtney (lead vocals).
Cost for the 21-and-older show is $15 in advance, and $20 at the door.

Sept. 8
The 17th annual Blackberry Festival and Classic Car Show will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 8 in Juliaetta Centennial Park. New this year to the festival are Weiner Dog Races with registration from noon to 1 p.m.
Attendees can plan to spend the entire day as breakfast will be available for sale beginning at 8 a.m., and hamburgers and hot dogs will be for sale at lunchtime. The lunch is a fundraiser to benefit the Juliaetta Fire Department. And, of course, a variety of foods featuring blackberries will be available for purchase.
A cornhole tournament starts at noon, and car show trophies will be awarded at 3 p.m. Activities for children include a booth staffed by the Palouse Discovery Science Center. Mark Maland and Keith Ochoa will play live music.
Sept. 8
Izzy the Camel will make a return appearance at the fifth annual RiverFest event to be held from noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 8 at Granite Lake Park in Clarkston.
The festival also will feature a variety of food and vendor booths, live music and activities for children.
The park is at Ninth Street and Port Way.
Sept. 8
Daniel Mark Faller and the Working Poor will play music beginning at 6 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Lewiston Elks, 3444 Country Club Drive.
The band, based in the Quad Cities region, call themselves an “alternative-Americana-folk band,” according to the group’s social media page.
Members are Daniel Mark Faller (lead vocals, guitars), Cris Peterson (guitars, mandolin, fiddle, vocals), Bruce Grimoldby (bass guitar, vocals), Brian Davies (pedal steel guitar) and Doug Lopes (drums, vocals). Dinner will be available for purchase.
Sept. 9
The Gonzaga University Concert Choir, conducted by Timothy Westerhaus, will perform at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 9 in the chapel at the Monastery of St. Gertrude in Cottonwood.
The Spokane university’s chorus, which tours throughout the Pacific Northwest, is a mixed ensemble of 60 voices, and the performance will include a wide variety of repertoire from the medieval to modern historical periods and from diverse cultures, according to a news release.
The concert is free, and the monastery is at 465 Keuterville Road.
Sept. 9
It’s gonna be a dog day afternoon when pups of all breeds take to the water Sept. 9 for the 11th annual Howling at Hamilton, the end-of-summer event where doggos take over the pool at the Hamilton-Lowe Aquatic Center in Moscow.
The event is a fundraiser to benefit the Moscow-based Humane Society of the Palouse, and it runs from 1 to 6 p.m. with a dog-jumping contest at 5 p.m.
Admission is $10 per dog, with a limit of one dog per person.
Sept. 12
The next Riverport Band Jam is 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 12 at Riverport Brewing Company in Clarkston, 150 Ninth St.
The jam session is open to musicians of all ages and abilities with full band equipment provided. Musicians also can bring their own instruments.
Organizers stipulate the event is a “band jam” and not an open mic, so there cannot be fewer than three people on stage at any time. Their other rules are be tuned and be on time.
