Through her paintings, Colfax artist Nancy Rothwell shows what courage it has taken for women to remain strong in the face of pandemics. Visual symbols such as road maps comment on this important societal event. One particularly haunting painting shows a nurse standing beside a tattered healthcare symbol. Her interest in history compares the 1918 flu epidemic with what has happened recently with COVID-19, yet in almost a joyful way: showing survival and strength of these women.
