The Libey Gallery invites the community to visit the new “Echos of a Pandemic” exhibit by Colfax artist Nancy Rothwell. This acrylic collage exhibit tells a visual story about the impact the COVID pandemic is having on women.
Nancy “paints what she thinks about” and she has been thinking a lot about what courage it has taken for women to remain strong in the face of pandemics both the flu epidemic of 1918 and the COVID-19 pandemic. In this exhibit, Nancy uses visual symbols such as road maps to comment on this important societal event. Once particularly haunting painting shows a nurse standing beside a tattered health care symbol. The bravery of women in health care settings and in the home cannot be overstated and she tries to capture this in her imagery.
The Libey Gallery is located in The Bettie Steiger Center adjacent to Colfax Library. The gallery's hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday and 1-5 p.m. Saturdays.
