“Buzzy,” by Dianne Cole, is among the artworks that will be on display in Moscow, starting Friday.

An art show opening Friday, Feb. 3, at Moscow’s 1912 Center, 412 E. Third St., aims to bring the cheerful colors of a garden to the dark days of winter.

A free, garden-themed party from 5-7 p.m. in the Great Room launches “Community Garden,” featuring a variety of artwork by community members.

The show, displayed in the Hallway Gallery, continues through the end of March.

An exhibit in 2009, made up of artwork all about chickens, marked the 1912 Center’s first community art show, which has had a different theme every year, center director Jenny Kostroff said in a news release.

“This year brings us to the garden and what our community thinks of when creating art,” Kostroff said. “We picked this time slot because winter can be so dark and dreary. It's a fun excuse to bring the community together and appreciate art."

Community members can view the exhibit any time the building is open, including 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and during weekend events such as the Winter Market. The next Winter Market runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, with 35 vendors and lunch by Wilder Catering. The final Winter Market will be March 4.
