January Retrospective Feature: Donna Baker and the late Larry Ferguson

The Valley Art Center's Retrospective Show of Donna Baker and the late Larry Ferguson begins with an opening reception from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at the Valley Art Center, 842 Sixth St., Clarkston. The show is free to the public. The show will continue through January. Gallery hours: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Tuesday - Saturday. Ferguson was a native of the Northwest who earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Idaho, and MA and MFA degrees from Midwest universities. Larry was a master of media, using his sensitive, organic line in everything from a simple pencil to classic paintings. Always learning, he explored a more expressive style in his later works. He taught art at the college level in the Midwest before moving to Clarkston in 1978. Larry taught various art courses through the Valley Art Center and was a favorite docent. Many artists dropped in to talk to him about art, and his words of advice and encouragement were treasured. Having exhibited widely, his work is in public and private collections in 18 states and in Europe. Baker is another area treasure with her work available at the Valley Art Center and Dahmen Barn in Uniontown. Working in a wide variety of media, Donna teaches classes in the center.
