Five questions or more with Austin Moody: A poem Q&A by Marvin Lee
Austin shows up. Im thinking, Isnt he hot? as he proceeds to tell me he wore the wrong shirt for a day as hot as this one a day hotter than a million suns, or so it seems.
Hello Austin. Hey Marv Hey Austin, do you have any nicknames? Just a couple No, but can you give me just one nickname? Thats it, JUST A COUPLE? Oooookayyy... ...lets start off with cliche question No. 1:
When and why did you start playing music? Well, my first cliche answer is gonna be when I was 7 years old, my grandma Joan signed me up for solo classical piano lessons and that is when I really found music, really really found it
Do you have a second cliche answer? No, thats gonna be that one for that answer
Would you mind explaining your work ethic when practicing and/or writing songs? For the band, we get together every Sunday and Monday and every other Wednesday and when we get together, we usually try to practice for three hours, talk about upcoming shows, upcoming set lists. We get to remix our own songs, take songs and play them in different styles just to kinda keep practice fun and exciting if you will. As a solo musician, I like to practice an hour a day by myself, like technique, fingering, and picking everything I can do to be a better guitar player.
What band would that be? the Maple Bars? THAT would be the Maple Bars. Awesome!
What are your fondest musical memories? Give me two. my fondest musical memories ... my first one would be when I was about 14 years old. My mom bought me a guitar for Christmas from Costco and it was one of those crappy floor models but it was also the same time my brother gave me a MEMOREX. One of the colorful MEMOREX cassette tapes. One side had Snoop Dogg The Doggfather but the other side had the Descendents Somery, so kind of, this is, my two fondest memories being that tape and that guitar at the time that I got them because I learned almost every song I possibly could off of the Descendents Somery with that guitar and that ... man that was ... that was neat ... that was a neat item.
Lets get a little off track here What do think and feel about the color chartreuse? Well, the first time I met Chartreuse was in a dim-lit bar with a gentleman named Jon Lane and he asked if I cared for a shot and I said of course and little did I know he ordered Chartreuse. It was the most prettiest green, just a beautiful green color and I put that thing down and instantly regretted it. so to that question I should have answered: deceptively beautiful.
So Austin, do you have any hecka sick sweet shows coming up this summer? We totes have some tight gigs lined-up for this summer. We will be headlining the Capital Street Dock Concert on Saturday with many local talents. We will be working on and playing a benefit/fundraiser for the Schmidt Family Farm. We will be playing Hot August Nights for their local talent showcase.
One last bonus question: do you like climbing trees? I prefer falling out of them.
