Main Street in downtown Lewiston will be closed to traffic Friday night and open to art lovers strolling between 40 locations featuring area artists and regional wines.
The Spirit of the Renegade Nez Perce drum group will perform a drum circle in the intersection of Fifth and Main streets at 5:30 p.m. Community members are invited to participate in a round dance, one of the three songs the group will play.
“It gets to the heart of artwalk; it’s about community and bringing the community together,” said Courtney Kramer, executive director of Beautiful Downtown Lewiston which presents the annual event.
Other live music Friday night includes sections of the Washington-Idaho Symphony performing at different locations and the classic rock band Heather and the Soul Motions performing from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brackenbury Square.
One of the locations where symphony members will perform is the Lewis-Clark Hotel, where work was recently completed to improve acoustics in the ballroom.
“We want to showcase to the community how much better it is as an event center,” Kramer said.
This year’s walk was expanded to two days, she said, to better include families and allow people more time to visit all the locations.
From noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, locations will be open for a Family-Friendly Artwalk that includes a scavenger hunt. People can hand-build clay sculptures at a Family Art Day from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Lewis-Clark State College Center for Arts & History.
Buttons featuring work by this year’s featured artist, Linda Scott, are for sale to raise money for public art projects downtown. The $5 buttons can be purchased today and Friday at the Lewiston Tribune, 505 Capital Street, or during Artwalk at the LCSC Center for Arts & History, 415 Main Street.
