Mardi Gras ball paves the way for 50th annual Moscow Ren Fair

Two traditions will come together later this month, one a fundraiser to support the other.

Proceeds from a Mardi Gras ball set for 7-11 p.m. Feb. 11 at the 1912 Center, 412 East Third St., will benefit the Moscow Renaissance Fair, set to celebrate its 50th anniversary May 6-7 at East City Park.

“There has been an old and rich tradition in Moscow during Mardi Gras,” longtime Ren Fair organizer Arlene Falcon said. “So the idea came to an old timer to enliven the old tradition, thus a Mardi Gras ball.”

Jeanne McHale, who started as Renaissance Fair president last year, identified a need for more storage for event supplies, and the Mardi Gras event will help cover costs to make that happen, among other expenses, Falcon said.

The event includes live music by The Eclectrix, Mother Yeti and The Sultry Swines, a costume contest and a no-host bar by One World Café with food, beer, wine and nonalcoholic drinks.

Tickets, $20, are available at One World Café, Tye-Dye Everything, Safari Pearl or at the door. Children 12 and younger attend free.
