For holiday activities, both traditional and new, in the community or at home, here are a handful of ideas for Memories to Make this week.
- Hang out with Santa. Hes a busy guy this time of year, but not too busy to stop by the Lewiston City Library for Family Storytime at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Hes also going to be skating at the LC Ice Arena 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $4, plus $3 rental; cookies, treats and hot cocoa will be served.
- Bring cookies or a small gift to neighbors or older adults you know who live alone. It doesnt have to be anything fancy, sometimes its just nice to know someone is thinking of you.
- Build a bonfire and enjoy your favorite warm holiday drink. Gather some friends or family and put that backyard fire pit to good use. Since smores and gloves dont always play well together, make up some cocoa, mulled wine, wassail, hot buttered rum or your favorite holiday drink and enjoy sipping it by the fire.
- Have a gingerbread house contest. Not into baking your own gingerbread? Buy a gingerbread house kit or load up on graham crackers, frosting and small candies. Gather some kids -- or kids-at-heart -- and see who can make the prettiest, tallest, ugliest or most candy-covered home.
- Do some coloring. Just Add Color, a drop-in coloring session for adults, takes place 5:30 p.m. Dec. 28 at the Lewiston City Library. Go alone or bring a friend and unwind after Christmas. Supplies are provided.
- Make Christmas candy. Its not too late to whip up some peanut brittle, chocolate fudge, toffee, peppermint bark or turtles. By next week, your excuses will be gone and those New Years resolutions will be breathing down your neck, so get it done while you can.
- Attend a candlelight or Christmas Eve service. Many local churches offer a candlelight or Christmas Eve service that provides a time for quiet reflection.
