"Non-Eminent: Nuns in Modern Sichuan Buddhism: Listening to Marginal Female Experiences"

Stefania Travagnin (SOAS, University of London) turns the standard histories of Buddhism in China on their head. Ignoring the purportedly "eminent" (male) monks, she instead pays attention to the rarely heard voices of nuns who pursue their devotion in little-known nunneries, and in so doing, she seeks to redefine what is meant by "eminence" in contemporary Chinese Buddhism.
