The back and white pattern of last year’s burn and the thawing snow patches caught my eye as we drove on Peola Road above Clarkston, Washington. It was a mild, windless day on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022, looking to the east over Hell’s Canyon with the mountains shining in sunshine in the distance.

This is a painting I did of Palouse Falls as it would be at the turn of the 20th century, in a time when many changes were happening, very quickly. The man on the horse could be Nez Perce or Palus, and he shows the transition of his days -- he carries rifle, not bow; he rides with saddle, not bareback; the blanket is traded, not hand made.

A spectacular halo around the morning sun in Moscow, Idaho. Taken from the U of I parking lot at 9 am by Karen Purtee of Moscow. The aura welcomed a beautiful day.
This shy bachelor is a Yellow-headed Blackbird. He has visited our feeder several times along with a large flock of Red-winged Blackbirds. But he has repeatedly been in flight ahead of my camera until the cool weather on Saturday, May 8th. Success! Taken by Karen Purtee east of Moscow.
Burnt Ridge Cemetery shows its respect for its U. S. Veterans with a welcoming line of wreaths bearing the seven service flags and the POW/MIA flag. The Wreaths Across America Program includes individual wreaths for the each gravesite. A simple ceremony with a small audience was held on Saturday, December 17th, under a clear sky. The Troy Historical Society sponsored the project for the seven rural cemeteries in the Troy Cemetery District.
