“Queens of the Roleo,” a documentary about a group of Lewiston-Clarkston Valley women that dominated the national log rolling scene for 14 years in the late 1950s and early '60s will kick-off this year's Spokane International Film Festival.
The film will be shown at 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 6 at the Bing Crosby Theater. Several of the former world champions and their coach, Roy Bartlett of Clarkston, will attend the showing, according to filmmaker Dave Jones. Those planning to attend include Bette Ellis Jordan and Cindy Cook Toste of Lewiston; and Barbara Peterka Newbry of Cheney.
Jones spent several years researching the story of the team. He is an independent video producer based in Bend, Ore.
“This is a story that will be lost with this generation,” Jones told Inland 360 when the film was shown in Lewiston last October. “It’s a story about a time in Northwest history that is gone.”
The festival takes place Feb. 5-14.
