Summer dare: Attend an outdoor music festival, listeners have their pick as summer heats up

By Dominique Wald

Summer music festivals hit all the right notes when it comes to having fun. Of course there’s Sasquatch! and Paradiso, but there’s no need to travel far and wide for good, live music. Regional music abounds for those with a concert itch. Outdoor music festivals provide the perfect opportunity to dabble in an unfamiliar genre or to check out regional talents living practically right under your nose.

Bluegrass comes to the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley the weekend of June 26 with the Two Rivers Rendezvous Valley Bluegrass Festival. Headliners Farmstrong and North Country Bluegrass are set to take the stage at the Nez Perce County Fairgrounds.

Rendezvous in the Park in Moscow brings big names to town July 17-19. Headliners include Samantha Fish, Los Lonely Boys and the Washington/Idaho Symphony. Local opening acts include Blue Funk Jailbreak and The Hoodoo Two.

On July 18, Inland 360’s very own Dock Concert will feature live music on the loading dock at the Lewiston Tribune on Capital Street. With free admission, local musicians, drinks, food and sun, what more could you ask for in a music festival?

Collective Soul will headline Rockin’ on the River July 25 in Clarkston on the banks of the Snake River. For a more local feel that day, head out to the Spiral Rock event featuring a variety of local musicians at 4 p.m. off the Spiral Highway in Lewiston.

Lewiston’s Hot August Nights concert, combining classic cars with rock ’n’ roll is set for Aug. 29 at Pioneer Park in Lewiston.

Double dare: Attend every festival listed. There’s no such thing as too much good music.

Word of advice: Bring sunglasses. In the world of outdoor summer music festivals, sunglasses are definitely a must.
