I think we’ve all been there: you drive by someone’s house and their curtains are open, they’re watching television and you just can’t stop looking.

What are they watching? What’s that hideous wallpaper on the wall behind their TV? How many of them are on that tiny couch? Then you look away as fast you can when it’s obvious you’re being nosy.

I’ve been in a similar situation when I’m behind someone at the bank and something completely random falls out of their bag as they pull out their wallet. I want to know exactly what other weird things they’re keeping from me. Here’s a little peek inside the bag of CrossFit Mama Amanda Long, 34, co-owner of LC Valley Crossfit in Lewiston.

  • Daily Planner: Not only is it necessary to remember when and where the kids’ teacher conferences are, it’s important that fun things happening at the box (gym) aren’t missed. Old school pen and paper is the way to go for calendars.
  • iPod: Music for the car, music for the gym. A healthy mix of country, rap, and pop.
  • Phone: I have to be connected to both my family and my business. I need to know if the kids are sick and need to be picked up or if one of our coaches is sick and their schedule needs covered.
  • Lululemon headband: Working out isn’t always pretty and usually leaves me looking like a hot mess. I throw on a headband and I’m ready for school pick-up.
  • Wallet: I mean, I guess the money and identification is important, but what’s really important is the Hot Shots punch card.
  • Glow-in-the-dark water bottle: So I can stay hydrated. Even in the dark.
  • Zippered pouch: I keep so much stuff in this tiny pouch. Hair ties (I get asked for an extra hair tie on a regular basis), bobby pins, Young Living Essential Oil roll-on (for pain that comes along with crossfitting), chapstick, loose change, hand sanitizer (being a mom can be pretty gross and so can being a CrossFit gym owner), gum (fresh breath is everything) and, because I also know a thing or two about looking put together, some fun lip gloss.

Stay tuned — we have other bags lined up: a doctor, a working dad, an artist ... satisfy your nosy nature with upcoming sneak peeks inside various bags in our area and maybe get an idea or two about what you should be stashing in your bag. Maybe if I throw a glow-in-the-dark water bottle in my purse I’ll be just as fit as Amanda.
