The Theon flag raising ceremony started in 2016 to honor the local veterans. It has continued to grow, as the community embraces diversity and supports the veterans and this event, now in its sixth year. There will be barbecue, hot dogs, Rod Sangster at the player piano and patriotic music provided by 1350 KRLC. The Nez Perce County Mounted Sheriff’s Posse will present the flags of each military branch and Lewiston Roundup Royalty will be present.
The ceremony itself includes, the “Missing Man Ceremony,” a military style flag raising, prayer and a historical tribute to the meaning behind Memorial Day. All branches of the military are represented.
There is also a silent/live auction, with proceeds going to the IVAL-N (Idaho Veterans Assistance League-North). Donations from this auction will be used for veteran's home residents' activities, such as, outings to the county fairs, rodeos, fishing trips and outings for meals. These donations also help with wedding anniversary celebrations, holiday and special event activities at the Lewiston Idaho State Veterans Home.
