“41D Man of Valor: The Story of Swat Officer Randy Simmons”

In her biography about her husband, “41 D Man of Valor,” author Lisa Simmons writes about her spouse’s multifaceted life and accomplishments before his death in 2008 during an 11-hour hostage rescue standoff in Los Angeles.

Her husband, Randy Simmons, was honored posthumously in 2009 with the first Cougar Courage Award from the Washington State University Alumni Association. The 27-year veteran of the LA Police Department was a former football player who graduated from WSU in 1979 with a degree in criminology. His death was the first in LAPD history of a SWAT officer losing his life in the line of duty. His son Matthew is now a student and football player at WSU.

Matthew and Lisa Simmons will have a book signing from noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 10 at the WSU Bookie. Lisa Simmons is a graduate of University of California Santa Barbara and carries on her husband’s legacy through the Randal D. Simmons Outreach Foundation.
