Tracy Hammond speaks frankly about life as an Idaho cowgirl in her new book “A Dream, a Prayer and Cowboy.”
Cowboy is the name of a family horse who was more than just a pet, said Hammond 43, of Lewiston.
“Everybody knew who he was because he won everything,” she said about the rodeo horse who died last spring at the age of 35 and has a headstone near the Tammany arena where he trained.
The book is full of true short stories, photos and poems about ranch and rodeo life. Hammond will sign copies of the book from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22 at Kodiak Coffee, 1902 21st St., Lewiston; and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, at Rosauers in Lewiston. Also signing at Rosauers will be Gini Roberge, Lewiston author of the fictional “Tagger Herd” series which celebrates horses and families.
“A Dream, A Prayer and Cowboy” costs $14 and is available at Swiss Salon in Clarkston, the Appaloosa Museum in Moscow, and Rocky Ranch Tack and Hells Canyon Pharmacy in Lewiston. It’s also available online.
