Caballeros de 1840

Lewisandclarkpresentations
These historical interpreters are crossing the Arkansas River at Bent's Old Fort near La Junta, southern Colorado. In 1840 this was the Mexico/Spanish border with the United States and on the Santa Fe Trail to California. This era was the end of the beaver trade and the middle of the buffalo robe trade with St. Louis. Image by John Fisher, Lewis & Clark scholar, 24 Sep. 2015.
