Clarkstons library cats are world famous.
Mikey and Carmen, residents of the Asotin County Library in Clarkston since 2013, are listed among the American Library Cats on the website Purr-n-Fur. The website features a comprehensive list of feline library staff in the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe, New Zealand and Australia.
Carmen was given to the library in 2013. Two days later staff discovered she was pregnant. She gave birth to six kittens. Five were adopted but Mikey stayed on.
Local reaction to the library cats has been overwhelming and very positive, said Mary Neuman, the youth services librarian. For people who may dislike cats or who are allergic to them, the library has a sign posted by the door offering to put them in the directors office.
