Winter is over, we’ve finally gotten a taste of spring weather, and it’s just in time for one of the busiest weekends of the year. Don’t forget to look in the calendar for more events, because there’s no way everything will fit here.
April 26
A collection of essays about life in the South is the focus of a book discussion set to begin at 7 p.m. April 26 at the Asotin County Library annex. Book Night @ Your Library will feature a discussion of “My Southern Journey: True Stories from the Heart of the South” by Rick Bragg. The library, at 417 Sycamore St. in Clarkston, is undergoing remodeling, so the event will be in the library annex, across the alley.
April 26-28
Drama students from Clarkston High School will open “Bring It On! The Musical” beginning at 7 p.m. April 26 in the CHS auditorium.
The play staged by the CHS Drama Club will continue at 7 p.m. April 27-28 and May 3-5. Matinees will be staged at 2 p.m. April 28 and May 5.
The musical is loosely based on the 2000 film of the same name and focuses on the competitive world of cheerleading and over-the-top team rivalries, according to the club’s social media page.
Admission is $12 regular price, $10 for students and seniors, and free for ages 5 and younger. The show is rated PG-13. Tickets are available only at the door and payment forms accepted are cash or check only.
The high school is at 401 Chestnut St.
April 27
The 25th annual Swing into Spring jazz band concert and fundraiser is 7 to 11 p.m. April 27 at the Lewiston Elks.
Performances will be by the Lewiston High School Jazz Band I and Jazz Band II, and the evening also will feature Lewiston’s Lewis-Clark College State College Jazz Band.
Admission for the concert is $10 and may be purchased in advance at the LHS band room or at the door. Drawings for a variety of prizes will take place during the evening.
The event is the jazz program’s main fundraiser and all proceeds from ticket sales and donations go directly to the LHS band.
A bite-size steak dinner is available for purchase for $12.50 beginning at 6 p.m., and dinner reservations must be made by calling the Elks office at (208) 743-5591. The Elks is at 3444 Country Club Drive.
April 27 and 29
A look at two spacecraft launched in 1977 is the focus of the latest planetarium show April 27 and 29 at Washington State University in Pullman.
The show begins at 7 p.m. April 27 and 5 p.m. April 29 in WSU’s planetarium, Room 231 of Sloan Hall.
“Drifters in the Dark: Voyagers 1 and 2” will detail the crafts which provided images from Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. They now are 141 and 116 astronomical units from the sun, and they continue their journey out from the solar system, according to the planetarium’s website.
Cost is $5 (cash or check only) and admission may be paid at the door.
April 28
Gear up to walk, jog or run in the 41st annual Seaport River Run, beginning at 10 a.m. April 28 at Swallows Park along the Snake River in Clarkston.
The two-state race ends at Hells Gate State Park in Lewiston, and free jet boat transportation across the river back to the start is provided.
The line formation begins at 9:40 a.m., and participants may choose between a 6.2-mile or a 2.9-mile course.
Free beverages are provided at the race finish.
Entries will be accepted until 45 minutes before race time at the site, and cost is $20 with a T-shirt and $15 without a shirt
April 28
Dick Riggs of Lewiston will sign copies of his latest book from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 28 at And Books Too in Clarkston.
The book, “Baseball in Small Town America,” is 177 pages and includes a variety of information about teams from the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley including Little League, American Legion, high school, Lewis-Clark State College, town team and the professional ranks, according to a news release.
The book will be available for purchase at the signing, or from the Nez Perce County Museum. Cost is $22.
The bookstore is 918 Sixth St.
Riggs, a retired educator, also will sign his book during LCSC baseball games at the beginning of May, just inside the Harris Field entrance gate in Lewiston. Signing begins at 5 p.m. May 5 and at noon May 6.
April 28-29
A “Kaleidoscope of Quilts” is the theme for the 33rd annual Seaport Quilter’s Guild Quilt Show April 28-29 at Clarkston High School.
Hours for the show are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $4.
The event is part of the annual Dogwood Festival of the Lewis-Clark Valley. The high school is at 401 Chestnut St.
May 1
The University of Idaho Choirs Concert, featuring performances by three student groups, begins at 7:30 p.m. May 1 in the Haddock Performance Hall on the UI campus in Moscow.
The concert will feature the Vandaleers, the Women’s Chorus and the Men’s Chorus.
Cost is $5 regular price, and $3 for students and seniors.
The performance hall is at 1010 Blake Ave.
