MOSCOW — Will West & the Friendly Strangers will bring modern folk sounds to John’s Alley in Moscow beginning at 9:30 p.m. July 28.
North Carolina-born songwriter West and his band have called Portland home since 2002. Their latest album is “Sunshine” released in 2012, and the band aims to release their third album, “Rain Song,” this year.
The band brings in jazz, bluegrass, rock and dance tunes in their live shows, according to their website.
The current lineup, besides West on vocals, includes Tanner Cundy on guitar, Drew Norman on banjo/slide, Skip vonKuske on cello/mandolin, Don Henson on percussive system, Jeff Simpson on trumpet/keys and Benjamin Kohen on bass.
John’s Alley is at 114 E. Sixth St.

CLARKSTON — Book lovers will discuss a New York Times bestseller at 7 p.m. July 28 during Book Night @ Your Library at the Asotin County Library here.
“The Wright Brothers” by David McCullough, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, is the featured book up for discussion.
The library is at 417 Sycamore St.

PULLMAN — The Dozier Jarvis Trio will play smooth jazz beginning at 9:30 p.m. July 29 at Ricos here.
The jazz trio has been playing together for more than 20 years.
There is no charge and Ricos is at 200 E. Main St.

KAMIAH — A Kamiah Fly-in will feature free flights for youths July 30 at the Kamiah Air Field, 121 Airport Road.
The free event, put on by the Clearwater Valley Aviation Club, will have live music throughout the day, specialty planes on display and a free introductory flight for youths ages 8 to 17 by the Young Eagles Program.
Breakfast will be available for purchase from 8 to 10 a.m., and lunch will be available beginning at noon.
Pilot competitions begin at 10 a.m. and will include water balloon and spot landings. A fundraising auction will begin at 11:30 a.m.
July 31
MOSCOW — The Latah County Historical Society’s 41st annual Ice Cream Social is Sundae (or Sunday, if you insist) July 31 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the McConnell Mansion here.
Attendees can enjoy free ice cream sundaes and watermelon on the mansion lawn, as well as a variety of family friendly activities including a water balloon toss, seed spitting contest, and horse and wagon rides. Groups giving demonstrations through the afternoon include the Appaloosa Lace Makers and Hog Heaven Muzzle Loaders.
The mansion is at 110 S. Adams St.
