CLARKSTON — Ryan Nunez says the inaugural Comic Book and Record Swap will be an event unlike any the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley has seen.

The all-ages event, scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Riverport Brewery in Clarkston, is the brainchild of Will Thompson, who is an avid collector of both comic books and vinyl music records.

“Comics and records just go so well together, and combining the two allows people to make connections they wouldn’t otherwise,” Thompson said.

Nunez, event sponsor and owner of Main Street Comics in Lewiston, said attendees are welcome to bring their comics and records to trade with others. There also will be more than 10,000 items available for purchase or trade through vendors, including first editions and rare and vintage items — some of which are valued at more than $600.

The genres of comics and records available will range from mainstream to obscure, Thompson said. He has volunteered at several other community events, and hopes the Comic Book and Record Swap will become an annual affair.

Nunez opened Main Street Comics in the store formerly called Main Street Market in Lewiston. He has been working in comic book publishing for the past five years and said he opened the store in August 2016, partially in response to the closing of Lewiston’s Hastings store.

“I realized once Hastings closed that there would soon be a gap of nerdy hobbies and activities available within the L-C Valley, and I just didn’t want to live in that world,” he said.

Admission to Saturday’s event is $2 per person, which includes one automatic entry into an hourly raffle. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to YoungLives, a nonprofit ministry of Young Life that provides life skills classes and support to teenage mothers.

Other event vendors include Def Jim Records of Moscow and Records on the Wall of Clarkston.
