A soffit restoration project leaves the underside of the Pullman Depot Heritage Center roof exposed while workers from local firms JK Greystone and Electrical Contractors NW prepare the building for new soffits in 2024. The Depot is located at 330 N. Grand Ave. in Pullman. The new tongue-in-groove soffits will be painted to match the original color of Roycroft Bottle Green. The work is funded by Washington State Historical Society Heritage Capital Projects (HCP) grant funds and community donations.

The Pullman Depot is undergoing restoration funded by a grant from Washington State Heritage Capital Project. In early June, several of the depot’s original roof tiles were discovered in hidden areas of the building – one in the attic and several more in the basement, tucked up behind a wall of the old coal chute. These original French interlocking tiles are consistent with historic photos of the building, but the color was a bit of a surprise to everyone. The original roof was green!
Nearing completion of a comprehensive masonry restoration project at the Pullman Depot Heritage Center, crew members from Pioneer Waterproofing replace compromised century-old foundation blocks with new sandstone from Cleveland Quarries in Vermillion, Ohio. The 1916 Northern Pacific Railway Depot is located at 330 N. Grand Avenue in Pullman.
Over 10,000 French roof tiles in the original color – Vintage Green – have been molded, fired, and glazed at the Ludowici plant in New Lexington, Ohio, and await shipment to the Pullman Depot Heritage Center at 300 N Grand Ave. in Pullman. The tiles are scheduled to arrive in early April and work will begin shortly thereafter to replace the roof of the 1917 Northern Pacific railway depot with one that closely replicates the original. The project is funded by Washington State Historical Society Heritage Capital Project grants and community donations.
We are ready for Holiday Fest this weekend! Santa arrives by train at the Pullman Depot at 4:30pm on Saturday. Grateful thank you to the Pullman Civic Trust for providing the light strings, and to Bobbie Ryder, Kalvin Johanson, John-Mark Mahnkey & Rich Wesson for installation! Community partnerships and volunteers are making this happen! (And yes those train cars need restoration! Join us to raise funds for this important work!)
