In 2014, Inland 360 planted the seeds for an open air music festival that would showcase the spirit and tradition of live music in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley.
Ten bands headlined the first Capital Street Dock Concert, playing outdoors on the Lewiston Tribune’s old loading dock in downtown Lewiston.
Fast forward four years. Saturday will be our fourth annual, all-ages, summer music festival under a new name, the Barge In Fest (find out more about the name here), with 20 bands and musicians on three valley stages with art, food, drink and more.
All three of this year’s venues are linked or accessible via the Lewiston Levee Parkway Trail and the Clarkston Greenbelt. A map that shows the route to take if you choose to walk or bike between stages is included in this week’s print edition of Inland 360. Idaho History Tours will also be offering free trolley rides between the Capital Street Stage and Smash the Skate Stage from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Here’s a guide to the day.
Smash the Skate II 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mtn. Dew skate park, 806 Snake River Ave., Lewiston
Raw hardcore punk bands from as far away as Iceland will play at Mtn. Dew skate park for Smash the Skate II which will also feature vendors and skate and BMX competitions at noon for beginners, 2 p.m. for intermediate and 4 p.m. for advanced. Proceeds go toward paying off the skate park.
Second Saturday Art Day 1 to 3 p.m. Lewis-Clark State College Center for Arts & History, 415 Main St., Lewiston
Bring your own T-shirt or bag to make a Barge In Fest screen print. Print and poster paper will also be available at this free activity for all ages. Continue building your interlocking, progressive screen print design at the Center’s tents at Mt. Dew Skate Park and the Barge In Fest hub at Capital Street. Each site will have a different element to add.
Capital Street Dock Stage 5 to 10 p.m. Lewiston Tribune, 505 Capital St., Lewiston
The festival’s hub is at Capital Street where headliners include Seattle’s Furniture Girls and Electric NoNo. Among the booths and food trucks you’ll find tasty bites, from wood-fired pizza, burgers and tamales to smoothies, kettle corn and other treats. The L-C Valley Wine Alliance will sell local wine. The Barge In Fest’s signature fresh cocktails will return with all proceeds donated back to the festival. Artisan wares will be for sale along with Barge In Fest T-shirts, stickers and merchandise from featured bands. Kids will find a bounce house and crafts and activities at booths staffed by area nonprofits. Idaho History Tours will offer complimentary trolley rides every half hour from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. from Capital Street to Mt. Dew Skate Park and back.
Hogan’s Pub 10 p.m. 906 Sixth St., Clarkston
Seattle’s Electric NoNo and Portland’s Toy Boat Toy Boat Toy Boat will play an encore after-hours jam at Hogan’s starting at 10 p.m. for ages 21 and up. There is a $5 cover charge.
