"K(Q)ueer-pop: Queer (In)Visibility in Korean Popular Culture"

Jungmin Kwon, an associate professor of digital culture and film studies at Portland State University, presents her recent research into how K-pop spaces encompass multiple configurations of gender and sexual identity. Kwon is the author of the book "Straight Korean Female Fans and Their Gay Fantasies" (Iowa, 2019). Professor Alex Ruble of UI's history department will moderate discussion after the talk. Kwon's talk is in the Clearwater Room and is part of the Habib Institute for Asian Studies' AsiaPOP! The Korean Wave symposium.
