Lewiston astronaut writes children's book "Mission to Space"

In a new children’s book, astronaut Commander John Herrington writes about becoming the first enrolled member of an American Indian tribe to fly in space.

The picture book “Mission to Space” features pictures of Herrington, a Chickasaw, training to be an astronaut and then traveling to the International Space Station, where he performs various duties. The book includes an English-to-Chickasaw vocabulary list with space-related terms.

Herrington was born in Wetumka, Okla. The mission he writes about took place in 2002. In 2015 he spoke at the first-ever White House Tribal Youth Gathering in Washington, D.C. He lives in Lewiston with his wife, Margo Aragon.
