Memoir "A Bridge Named Susan" shares woman's Great Depression era story

Clarkston author Sharon Chase Hoseley will sign copies of her memoir, “A Bridge Named Susan,” 1 to 3 p.m. June 3 at And Books Too in Clarkston.

The book is set in the early 1900s and follows the life of Hoseley’s mother, Susan, who was born into a farm family full of boys to a resentful mother. Susan then marries a distant man and faces acute poverty and a sub-zero winter living in a tent during the Great Depression.

"I want this story to reach the multitudes that want to give up and escape, because life is too hard," Hoseley said in a news release. "Everyone can find their courage and strength, if they have faith."

The 220-page book was a finalist in the Oregon Christian Writers 2016 Cascade Writing Contest. Hoseley is a retired kindergarten teacher.
