Moscow children’s author releases new book on respected librarian

Moscow author Annette Bay Pimentel will discuss her latest book for children, “Pura’s Cuentos: How Pura Belpré Reshaped Libraries with Her Stories,” at a youth-focused event Saturday in Moscow.

An interactive storytime with refreshments is 11 a.m. to noon at the Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre, 508 S. Main St. Masks are required. Pimentel writes true stories about real people.

Belpré was a lauded storyteller, librarian and pioneer of bilingual storytimes. She grew up in Puerto Rico and later moved to New York City, where she became a librarian. The book is illustrated by Magaly Morales and was released last week by Abrams Publishers. The event is organized by BookPeople of Moscow.
