On the Beat: Moscow duo Carper and Peterson

Hometown: Moscow

Genre: Original roots-rock Americana

Bio: The duo of Janis Carper and Cris Peterson combine top-notch song writing and vocal harmonies with multi-instrumental skills on guitar, mandolin and violin into a roots-Americana sound with a strong groove. Much of the music they play is material co-written in the past two years, plus originals each one brings to the mix. Their sound combines influences of rock, blues and folk. Whether it’s a folk-rock ballad or saucy blues number, they aim for synchronicity.

Unusual fact: Carper and Peterson played together in a country-rock band that toured the Northwest and Canada in the early ‘80s, based out of northern Idaho. They lost touch with each other for 30 years but have reunited, thanks to (you guessed it) Facebook.
