Artworks in this exhibition explore the spectrum of representational approaches to painting. Making a representational artwork calls for the artist to be present, to be deeply immersed in the subject matter. The surface of a representational artwork may depict what something looks like, but it functions more deeply as an artifact of communion between artist and subject. An artist reception, including readings by Moscow Poet Laureate Stacy Boe Miller, will be held from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 22.
