When: March 31-April 1, 7:30 p.m. and April 1-2, 2 p.m. 2023
Presented and produced by Idaho Repertory Theatre, this award-winning play by Jeff Stetson depicts the imagined meeting of civil rights activists Malcom X and Martin Luther King Jr. Tickets, available online, are free for UI students and $5-25 for the general public. Described as “an unforgettable evening of drama” by The New York Post, “The Meeting” is co-sponsored by the University of Idaho Black/African American Cultural Center, the Africana Studies Program and the Department of History, with funding from the IRT Endowment and the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences. Martin Luther King Jr., played by Tyler Madden of Baltimore, Maryland; and Malcom X, played by James Stringer Jr., from the University of Virginia, debate their varying approaches to the same grave social problems — both prepared to die for their beliefs but neither aware of how soon assassins' bullets would come.
