Yellow Dog Flats plays Saturday at Moscow's Farmers Market

Local band Yellow Dog Flats will hit the stage at 9:30 a.m. this Saturday for the Moscow Farmers Market playing country blues, folk, and Americana. The band has enlivened the Palouse since 2009 with performances at the Moscow Food Co-op, private parties, One World Café, the Sage Bakery in Lewiston and other various Moscow downtown restaurants.

"We even met at a restaurant," said frontman Gary Reed (guitar and vocals). "I had been in another band before it was disbanded, so I was looking for other people to join up with. I saw Tom (Carroll) for the first time at the Wine Company downtown."

Carroll (harmonica) is the other permanent member of Yellow Dog Flats, but Henry Willard joins when he can on acoustic guitar, electric guitar, or Dobro.

"We enjoy doing both covers and original music," said Reed, "with our own touches of bluegrass."

Reed hails from the South, which explains the band's name: Yellow Dog Flats pays tribute to the train nicknamed “The Yellow Dog” that rumbled through the flat lands of the South, home to some great blues legends.
