MOSCOW — A staged reading of “Clarkston,” a new play by heralded playwright Samuel D. Hunter, will be at 7 tonight at the Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre here.
The event is a benefit for the theater, and will be staged by Moscow Art Theatre (Too).
The reading will feature Kelly Quinnett, Micheal Angelo Smith and Nick Eastman Pratt, and will be directed by Dave Harlan, artistic director of Moscow Art Theatre (Too).
Hunter was born and raised in Moscow, and also is a recipient of a 2014 MacArthur Fellowship.
“Clarkston” is a story about two young men struggling to find their way into an uncertain future, according to a news release. The play will have its world premiere in December at the Dallas Theater Center.
A social hour before the reading begins at 6 p.m. and will feature refreshments with a no-host bar.

LEWISTON — Main Street Dance will stage two performances of a theatrical ballet and Celtic dance production of “Mary Poppins” in the Lewiston High School auditorium Saturday.
The performances will be 1 and 7 p.m., and will feature the much-loved songs from the musical.
General admission is $10 while seniors and children ages 12 younger are admitted for $5. Tickets are available at the door.

PULLMAN — The annual unveiling of the National Lentil Festival poster and the Wine vs. Brew Tasting will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Cider House here 588 Bishop Blvd.
The event is the kick-off for the festival, planned for Aug. 21-22. Signed posters, created this year by Rob Smith of Colfax, will be available for purchase along with the 2015 souvenir T-shirts.
The event also will feature the tasting of wine and beer from Camas Prairie Winery, Merry Cellars Winery, Paradise Creek Brewery and Whiskey Barrel Cider Company. After sampling, attendees may vote for the best beverage.
Live music will be provided by Jon and Rand.

MOSCOW — Author and naturalist Jack Nisbet of Spokane will read from his latest work at 7 p.m. Wednesday at BookPeople of Moscow.
Nisbet will read from his book, “Ancient Places: People and Landscape in the Emerging Northwest,” which investigates some of the people and phenomena that shaped the landscape of the region, according to a news release. Nisbet also will sign copies of his book, which will be for sale.
Refreshments will be provided, and beer and wine will be available for purchase.
Nisbet’s books about the human and natural history of the Intermountain West include “Sources of the River,” “Visible Bones” and “The Collector,” a biography of David Douglas named a 2010 Book of the Year by the PNW Booksellers Association. His recent collection of essays about Douglas, titled “A Naturalist at Work,” serves as the catalog for an exhibit on display at the Washington County Museum in Hillsboro, Ore., through August.
