Kelly Quinnett will give a free staged reading of Natural Shocks by Lauren Gunderson at 5 p.m. April 19 at the Kenworthy Performing Arts Center in Moscow.
Quinnett is head of performance at the Theatre Arts Department at the University of Idaho in Moscow,
Natural Shocks is a new and unpublished play by Gunderson, who was named Americas most-produced playwright by American Theatre magazine in 2018. Based on Hamlets to be or not to be soliloquy, Natural Shocks is part confessional, part stand up and part reckoning as the main character waits in her basement for the arrival of an imminent tornado, according to a news release.
Directing the reading is Shea King, a master of fine arts candidate in UIs College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences who works with Quinnett as a graduate teaching assistant.
Free advance tickets are available at BookPeople of Moscow, in Room 201 of UI's Shoup Hall or at the door 30 minutes before curtain.
Doors will open at 4:30 p.m., and the Kenworthy is at 508 S. Main St.
April 20
Prepare your palate: The 28th annual Confluence Grape & Grain wine and beer tasting event is 6 to 9 p.m. April 20 at the Lewis-Clark State College Center for Arts & History in downtown Lewiston.
The evening will feature a silent auction, live music by Eric Goodwin and Andru Gomez, and catering by Jollymores. Attendees will have the opportunity to sample six select wines and microbrews in a souvenir glass.
Among the wineries participating in the event are Basalt Cellars, Camas Prairie Winery, Clearwater Canyon Cellars, Colters Creek, Lindsay Creek Vineyards, Merry Cellars, Parejas Cellars, Potter Wines and Vine 46. Breweries include Paradise Creek Brewery, Riverport Brewing Company and Trestle Brewing Company. Other Pacific Northwest wines and microbrews will be available, along with soft drinks and water.
Tickets are $35 today or $45 Friday, and may be purchased online at www.lcsc.edu/cah/exhibits-events/confluence-grape-grain/. Attendees must be 21 or older.
The event is part of the Dogwood Festival of the Lewis-Clark Valley, and the center is at 415 Main St.
April 20
Jazz & Chocolate 2018, a fundraiser to benefit Family Promise of Lewis-Clark Valley, begins at 7 p.m. April 20 in the Warrior Room at Lewistons Red Lion Hotel.
In addition to a dessert buffet, the evening will feature performances by Sound Alliance and Vocal Union, two student jazz groups from Brigham Young University-Idaho in Rexburg.
Cost is $20 regular price and $10 for students. Tickets may be purchased at Rosauers and Owl Southway, both in Lewiston.

Playboi Carti headlines the 15th annual Springfest, the two-day outdoor musical festival on Wilson Road at Washington State University in Pullman.
Carti wraps up the festival and is scheduled to perform at 9 p.m. April 21. Other performances on the festival schedule include:
April 20: J.I.D, 8 p.m.; and Billie Eilish, 9 p.m.
April 21: Travis Thompson, 6 p.m.; ye., 7 p.m.; and Gryffin, 8 p.m.

A twilight Hope Glow Run, an American Cancer Society fundraiser through Relay For Life, will begin at 7 p.m. April 21 at Northwest River Supply East Campus along South Blaine Street in Moscow.
The event includes both 5K and 10K distances, and participants will get glow sticks and a luminaria bag.

Other activities will include a beer garden, barbecue and childrens activities. Cost is $25 to $40.
April 21-22
The final concert of the Washington Idaho Symphonys 46th season, Cowboys, Carnivals and Korsakov! will be performed this weekend in Pullman and Lewiston.
Danh T. Pham will be guest conductor for the performances.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. April 21 in the Pullman High School auditorium, and at 3 p.m. April 22 in the Lewiston High School auditorium.
The concert will kick off with the Western-film melodies of The Cowboys Overture by John Williams, part of the musical score for the 1972 film The Cowboys. Two overtures, Roman Carnival Overture by Hector Berlioz and Carnival Overture by Antonin Dvorak will follow, and the concert concludes with Scheherazade by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.
Tickets may be purchased at the doors and regular price is $25. Cost for students 13 and older is $15 in Pullman and free in Lewiston, and juniors (age 12 and younger) are $10 in Pullman and free with a paying adult in Lewiston. Washington State University and University of Idaho students will be admitted free with ID.

April 22-23
Auditions for The Secret Garden, to be staged by the Lewiston Civic Theatre, will be held at 4 p.m. April 22 and 6:30 p.m. April 23 at the theaters office in downtown Lewiston.
Audition packets are available for pickup at the office, and auditioners are asked to prepare to perform a selection of music from the show. The musical is based on the 1911 childrens novel of the same name by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
The theater office is at 832 Main St.
The Secret Garden is scheduled to be staged June 8-24 in the Lewiston High School auditorium.
