LEWISTON — What was lost, has now been found.
“The Lost Apples of the Inland Empire” is the name of a presentation given by David Benscoter of Spokane at 7 p.m. Jan. 12 on the campus of Lewis-Clark State College here.
Benscoter will detail his discovery on the Palouse of two varieties of apples previously thought extinct and describe his continuing search for other old apple varieties that once were grown in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley. He is interested in finding and surveying old trees and orchards in this region.
The talk is one in the Nez Perce County Historical Society’s Winter Series and will be in Room 112 of Sacajawea Hall.
Benscoter is a retired federal law enforcement agent, and began his interest in old apple varieties about seven years ago when he pruned trees in the 100-year-old orchard of a friend, according to a news release. In trying to identify the trees, he began researching the history of apple-growing in eastern Washington.

MOSCOW — Moscow Sister City Association’s annual fundraiser auction and dance will be from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Friday at the 1912 Center here.
A variety of desserts will be available for purchase, and one is included in the admission cost of $10. The event also features coffee, a no-host bar, and live and silent auctions. Attendees can dance to live music by Blue Funk Jailbreak beginning at 8 p.m.
Money raised goes to support Villa El Carmen, Moscow’s sister city in Nicaragua.

PULLMAN — Sophia Tegart is featured flutist for “Winter Spirits: Music for the Flute,” part of Washington State University’s Faculty Artist Series, which begins at 8 p.m. Jan. 13 in Bryan Hall Theatre on campus here.
Tegart is clinical assistant professor of flute at WSU, and she will be joined by Jeffrey Savage on piano, WSU associate professor of music; and Casey Bozell, Oregon Ballet Orchestra violinist.
This will be Tegart’s first faculty recital at WSU since being appointed to her current position and the program includes works by celebrated women composers Sofia Gubaidulina and Katherine Hoover, as well as up-and-coming composer Nadine Dyskant-Miller, according to a news release. The program will be rounded out by French composer Philippe Gaubert and Nino Rota.
Cost is $10 for regular price, $5 for seniors and non-WSU students and free for WSU students. All proceeds benefit the School of Music scholarship fund and tickets are available in the lobby 30 minutes before concert time.

LEWISTON — Wylie and the Wild West will perform on stage for dancing and listening at the Lewiston Elks Jan. 14.
A bite-size steak dinner from 5:30 to 7 p.m. will precede the show. The music will be from 7 to 10 p.m.
Wylie Gustafson, who hails from Montana, and his band have played many shows in the Quad-Cities area. Their brand of music includes “elements of cowboy, traditional country, western swing, folk and yodeling” according to the band’s website. They have made more than 50 appearances on the Grand Ole Opry stage.
Cost is $35 for the dinner and show, while show-only tickets are $20. Tickets are available at the Lewiston Elks, 3444 Country Club Drive, and Rustebakke Veterinary Services in Clarkston, 705 15th St.

SPALDING — John B. Herrington of Lewiston, author of the children’s book “Mission to Space,” will sign copies of his book from 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 14 at the Nez Perce National Historical Park visitor center here. Herrington is an astronaut who flew to the International Space Station in 2002 aboard the shuttle Endeavour.
The visitor center is at 39063 U.S. Highway 95/12.

MOSCOW — Auditions for “Wendy & Peter: Into Neverland,” staged by the University of Idaho Theatre Arts Department, will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 14 at the UI’s Hartung Theater.

MOSCOW — Rock, punk and emo music are on the card when three bands take the stage beginning at 7 p.m. Jan. 17 at One World Cafe here.
Playing Tourist Forever of Lancaster, Calif., plays punk; Hit Me Harold of California plays indie rock and emo; and Skinny the Kid from the Pacific Northwest plays pop rock.
The cafe is at 533 S. Main St., and cost is $3.
