CLARKSTON — A discussion of “Hillbilly Elegy,” a memoir by J.D. Vance, will begin at 7 p.m. Jan. 25 in the Asotin County Library here.
The discussion is one in the Book Night @ Your Library series.

MOSCOW — The University of Idaho’s Auditorium Chamber Music Series continues at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 25 in the Administration Building auditorium on campus here with a concert featuring the Ying String Quartet.
The Ying String Quartet last appeared in the series in 2012, and this performance will include a major new work written for them, “The Conference of the Birds” by Christopher Theofanidis, according to Leonard Garrison, series director.
The quartet features Robin Scott on violin, Janet Ying on violin, Phillip Ying on viola and David Ying on cello. The 30-year classical music veterans are four-time Grammy nominees, winning in 2005 for Best Classical Crossover Album. Ying String Quartet is the quartet-in-residence at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y., and an ensemble-in-residence at the Bowdoin International Music Festival.
Cost is $25 regular price, $20 for seniors and $10 for students. Tickets are available at BookPeople in downtown Moscow, online at uidaho.edu/class/acms and at the door.
In addition to tonight’s performance, the quartet will perform two free concerts on Friday. The ensemble will perform for the public from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Moscow Public Library, and for children ages 3-8 from 3 to 4 p.m. at the 1912 Center.

MOSCOW — The Moscow Sister City Association’s yearly fundraiser, featuring desserts, auctions and live music, will be from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Jan. 26 at the 1912 Center here.
Admission to the event includes one dessert, with additional desserts available for purchase. A silent auction begins at 7 p.m. followed by a live auction at 7.30 p.m.
Jon and Rand will play live music from 8 to 9:30 p.m., with covers of popular music from the 1960s and ’70s.
The event also will include a no-host bar.
Cost is $10, and all proceeds will benefit Moscow’s sister city, Villa El Carmen, in Nicaragua. Over the years, Moscow’s sister city group has contributed money, expertise and materials to Villa El Carmen, according to a news release, and since 2014, has been concentrating on scholarships.
Jan. 27-28
The Washington Idaho Symphony’s third concert of its 46th season, “Sounds of Scandinavia,” will be performed this weekend in Pullman and Lewiston.
The concert will feature the music of Edvard Grieg and Jean Sibelius, and Edward Dixon will be the guest conductor.
The concert, which includes a performance by the symphony’s 2016-17 Young Artist Competition winner Melody Morrison, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 27 at Pullman High School, and at 3 p.m. Jan. 28 in the Lewiston High School auditorium.
The program includes Grieg’s “Peer Gynt Suite” and the first movement of his “Piano Concerto in A Minor,” with Morrison and Sibelius’ “Symphony No. 2.”
Regular admission price for both concerts is $25. For the Pullman concert, students ages 13 and older are $15 and children ages 12 and younger are $10. For the Lewiston concert, children are admitted free with a paying adult, and students are admitted free.
Pullman High School is at 510 N.W. Greyhound Way, while Lewiston High School is at 1114 Ninth Ave.

CLARKSTON — The 60th annual Knights of Columbus Sausage Dinner will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 28 in the new parish hall at Holy Family Catholic Church here.
Cost for the annual all-you-can-eat dinner is $12 regular price, $6 for ages 6 to 12 and free for children younger than 6.
The church is at 917 Chestnut St.
