If Moscow’s motto is it’s the “Heart of the Arts,” its heart beats loudest Friday, June 21 at the 15th annual Artwalk. Here’s the hot take on this year’s highlights.

This year’s event features work by more than 100 artists from around the region showing their work in Moscow businesses. Main Street downtown will be closed to traffic from 4-9 p.m. and filled with interactive arts and crafts demonstrations, street performers, children’s activities, live music and food and drink vendors.

Enjoy music outdoors in two locations. From 5-9 p.m. in Friendship Square, you’ll find members of the Washington-Idaho Symphony, Brady Goss and L.A. and the Earthquakes. From 4-8 p.m. at First and Main streets, you’ll find Pullman folk musician Dan Maher, the Range Benders and Pick Axe. Various businesses will also feature live music.

Among the vendors on Main Street, Traveling T, a mobile screen-printing operation from Coeur d’Alene will offer T-shirts printed on demand with design options including the Moscow Artwalk logo and the image of the new ACLU mural on the Moscow Hotel.

The Prichard Art Gallery will feature a sound installation by internationally-known artist Zimoun.

The Swiss-based contemporary artist creates site-specific works with commonplace industrial objects that reference the chaos of modern-day life. In terms of scale, the exhibit is one of the most ambitious ever undertaken at the gallery, according to its director, Roger Rowley. Zimoun’s new work involves 618 motors and 804 meters of rope. His Prichard exhibition comes between shows in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates and Frankfurt, Germany. A reception is from 1-9 p.m. Friday. The exhibit is on display through Sept. 22.
