LEWISTON-CLARKSTON
--The Old Fashioned Fourth of July from noon to 4 p.m. Friday at Pioneer Park in Lewiston will feature rides on a stagecoach and an old-fashioned fire truck, children’s games, local entertainment, food vendors, a show and shine and more. The Lewiston Community Band will perform classic patriotic music starting at 4:30 p.m. at the bandshell. The event is free.
-- The 29th annual Community Spirit Fireworks show kicks off at 4 p.m. Friday at Adams Field in Clarkston with live music by the band the Working Poor until fireworks start at 10 p.m. Food will be for sale by area vendors. Alternative Nursing Services and Pizza Time of Lewiston are providing 3-D glasses for the show. The glasses can be picked up today at the businesses. They will also be available at the field. Admission to the field is free but donations are accepted for the yearly 30-minute firework display. American flags will also be available by donation. The annual event draws 4,000 to 5,000 attendees.
MOSCOW
--Moscow’s Independence Day Celebration is at noon Friday at Friendship Square downtown. Former city councilor Linda Pall will lead the event, which will include the Pledge of Allegiance, singing of “The Star Spangled Banner,” a reading of the Declaration of Independence, the annual Mutt Strut competition, and singing of “This Land is Your Land.” Free popsicles will be provided by the city of Moscow.
PULLMAN
--The 2014 Pullman Fourth of July Celebration starts at 5 p.m. Friday at Sunnyside Park with a barbecue at the park shelter. Food and novelties like glow sticks and T-shirts will be for sale to support the event and the 20-minute fireworks display that starts at 10 p.m.. Tickets are $1 for a children’s play area and police and fire equipment will be on site for the public to explore. Live music includes the Community Band of the Palouse playing from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by Pullman folksinger Dan Maher and at 7 p.m., the Fabulous Kingpins performing three hours of rock ‘n’ roll favorites.
No alcohol or personal fireworks are allowed at the park, including sparklers. People are advised to leave pets at home. In addition to regular holiday service, Pullman Transit will offer free rides to and from the Sunnyside Park celebration on July 4. OROFINO
--The Great All-American Fourth of July Celebration will start at 8 a.m. Friday at Orofino City Park with a coed volleyball tournament. The Rotary Barbecue starts at noon with burgers, hot dogs, baked beans, watermelon, ice cream and more until food runs out. Adult beverages will be for sale starting at 4 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the celebration. The live band Peacemaker will perform starting at 7 p.m. Fireworks are at 10:10 p.m. People are advised to bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating.
GRANGEVILLE
-- Border Days events continue today through Saturday here with parades, the rodeo, a carnival, an art sale and a concert by Micky and the Motorcars, an alternative country band formed in Stanley, Idaho, and now based in Austin, Texas.
On Friday a Cowboy Breakfast is 6 to 11 a.m. at the Masonic Lodge. A Kiddies Parade is at 10 a.m. with sign up at 9:30 at the post office. The main parade is at 11 a.m. Other Friday events include Art in the Park at City Park. The Bicentennial Museum will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. The rodeo starts at 2 p.m. Friday. Admission is $10 for ages 12 and older, $5 younger than age 12, and free for those younger than 6.
Micky and the Motorcars perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the rodeo grounds. The opening band is Aces Up. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the gate. ELK RIVER
--The annual Independence Day celebration Fireworks in the Mountains starts at dusk (approximately 9:45 p.m.) Saturday at the airstrip in the middle of town. The Elk River Fireworks committee will have a barbecue near Elk Butte Recreation on Front Street from 6 p.m. until the show starts.
JOSEPH, Ore.
--The third annual Joseph Mountain Music Festival featuring local and regional bluegrass, country, Celtic, and folk will take place all day Saturday in Joseph.
The Dakota Brown Band, Homemade Jam, Bitterroot, and Jonathan Warren and the Billy Goats, are just a few of the bands that will be playing at Embers Brew House, Red Horse Coffee Traders, Mutiny Brewing, the Hydrant and Bailey Lodge at Wallowa Lake Camp.
