Halloween Happenings 2018: LC Valley, the Palouse and surrounds

Get your toothbrush ready. Halloween starts this weekend with a flood of candy and spooky thrills. Here’s a look at some of the biggest events taking place the week of Oct. 23 through Oct. 31, 2018 around the region, from pie eating and pumpkin rolling contests to flash mobs and zombie hordes.

LEWISTON-CLARKSTON-ASOTIN

Fourth annual Lewis-Clark Valley Pumpkin Patch

When: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., daily through Oct. 31

More than 3,000 pumpkins and gourds for sale, along with games and photo opportunities. Proceeds benefit charity organizations. Donate two cans of food and get $1 off your pumpkin.

Where: Lewiston First United Methodist Church, 1906, Broadview Dr., Lewiston

9th annual Pumpkin Palooza

When: Noon to 4 p.m. Saturday

Beautiful Downtown Lewiston’s free, family-friendly harvest carnival offers games, activities, food, prizes and craft vendors, as well as a costume contest and pumpkin pie eating contest. The Great Pumpkin Roll, named by Food Network Magazine as Idaho’s best pumpkin-related activity in 2017, will return to Fifth Street grade. The costume contest is open to all ages and awards prizes in six categories. The pie eating contest is open to anyone 12 and older, with the Pumpkin Trophy and cash prize awarded to whoever eats a whole pie plus whipped topping the fastest.

Hells Gate Haunted Hayride

Take a hayride through some spooky haunted campsites.

When: Gates open at 6 p.m. with rides starting at 7 Saturday.

Where: Hells Gate State Park, 5100 Hells Gate Road, Lewiston

Cost: $5 vehicle admission to park, $2 for hayride

Spookin' Boo's Haunted House

When: 4 to 9:15 p.m. Saturday and Wednesday

All ages haunted tour with spooky performances presented by the Lewiston High School Skills USA Club, Elks and Terry Settles.

Where: Lewiston Elks, 3444 Country Club Drive

Cost: $3 children under 12, $5 ages 12 and up. Bring two cans of food and get $1 off admission.

11th annual Boo Bash

When: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday

All-ages event with games, crafts, trick or treat, haunted maze. Where: Asotin County Aquatic Center,

Cost: $5 per family

Fourth annual Haunted House

When: 7 to 11 p.m. Friday

This year’s theme for Clarkston High School Drama Club’s haunted house is classic horror movies brought to life. The tour goes through the school’s halls and gyms.

Where: Clarkston High School

Cost: $3 children, students and seniors; $5 adults, at the door, cash only. There is a $1 discount to go through a second time with your original ticket.

“Night of the Living Dead” on stage and screen

The Lewiston Civic Theatre is bringing the classic horror film to stage.

When: 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Wednesday

Where: Clarkston Grange Hall, 2220 Reservoir Road, Clarkston

Cost: $10 to $15

The theater will also show the classic film followed with a talk by area actors in the production.

When: 7 p.m. Sunday

Where: Lewis-Clark State College Center for Arts & History, 415 Main St., Lewiston

Cost: By donation. Popcorn and soda will be available.

Sixth Street Trick-or-Treat

When: 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday

Where: Downtown Clarkston

Trick-R-Trunk

All ages, free event with treats, costume contests and food and drink for sale.  

When: 4 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday

Where: Asotin County Fairgrounds, Asotin

Chief Tim 'r Treat

When: 5:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday

Kids can trick or treat through the campground from RV to RV. Gates open at 5:30. Attendees are asked to bring flashlights.

Where: Chief Timothy State Park, Clarkston

MOSCOW-PULLMAN

Halloween Barn Dance

When: 9 p.m. to midnight, Friday

Music and swing dance, costume contest and a roping dummy. Fundraiser for the Student Idaho Cattle Association.

Where: Animal Pavilion and Meats Lab, West Farm, University of Idaho, Moscow

Cost: $5

11th annual Animals of the Night

When: 5 to 8 p.m. Friday

Free family-friendly event featuring live animals, interactive exhibits, face painting, crafts, a campfire and music. Hot food and beverages available by donation. Costumes encouraged.

Where: Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute, 1040 Rodeo Dr., Moscow

Ridenbaugh Haunted House

When: 8 a.m. to midnight Saturday

Sigma Alpha Iota and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia run this annual haunted tour. Proceeds go to local and national charities.

Where: Ridenbaugh Hall, University of Idaho, Moscow

Cost: $1 or one can of food.

Downtown Moscow Trick-or-Treat

Face painters will be at the Moscow Chamber of Commerce, and there will be a photo booth at Friendship Square. City staff will be handing out small pumpkins and apples.

When: 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday

Halloween Flash Mob to “Thriller”

Festival Dance and Performing Arts presents a flash mob performance set to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” during downtown trick or treat. All are welcome to join the mob.

When: 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday

Where: Fifth and Main Streets, downtown Moscow

“Haunted Skies” planetarium show

Show focuses on Halloween’s celestial origins and spooky sights in space. There’s also a contest for space or sci-fi themed costumes.

When: 7 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Sunday

Where: Washington State University Planetarium, Room 231, Sloan Hall, Pullman

Cost: $5 cash or check only, free for ages 6 or younger.

PALOUSE

17th annual Haunted Palouse

When: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday

For ages 12 and up only. Tours of two haunted buildings, a haunted hayride and spooky street vendors and fortune tellers. Tickets sold the night of performances in the drive-through area at the Palouse Branch of Banner Bank, 150 N. Bridge St. Proceeds benefit community activities.

Where: Palouse, Wash.

Cost: $20, cash only

OROFINO

Trick or Treat on the Street

When: 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday

Where: Downtown Orofino

Cost: Free
