Two independent filmmakers plan to feature the locales of the Palouse in a feature film set to shoot this summer in and around Moscow and Pullman.

The dark, gritty comedy “Angel’s Bounty,” about a female bounty hunter seeking a final pay-off, was written and will be produced by the Los Angeles-based production company Passionate Apathy Entertainment, run by Lee Fleming and his partner, actress Kristen Springer.

It was a “foregone conclusion” when they started work on a road trip movie that it should be shot on the back roads and highways of the Palouse, says Fleming, a 2007 graduate of Washington State University.

“We wanted locations with a unique feel and kind of a mood to them,” says Fleming, 43.

Shooting is scheduled to take place July 22 - Aug. 4 by a five-member skeleton crew working on a shoe-string budget, Fleming says. Several University of Idaho students will serve as crew members.

The film will have a soundtrack of Northwest bands, including the Tacoma band Guns of Nevada, Voxxy Vallejo and Roman Holiday. Guns of Nevada is to play live for a scene in the film July 27 at Moscow’s Plantation Tavern, Fleming says. The flimmakers and band plan to hold another show open to the public that night with time yet to be announced.

Other locations they hope to use are My Office Grill and Bar in Pullman and sites at Washington State University, although they had yet to hear back from university officials.

This is the first feature film for the couple who recently wrapped production on the first season of a web series sketch-comedy called “This Show Right Here.” Fleming worked in the non-profit sector for a time but says he decided he wasn’t getting any younger and he should pursue his dream of making films. He moved to Los Angeles and has produced a couple of short films along with the web series.

He says they plan to get “Angel’s Bounty” on DVD and other digital platforms and will also schedule a screening in the Moscow-Pullman area after the film is completed in 2014.
