The vineyard’s 2013 Merlot won Best of Class in the $18 to $24 category in the 33rd San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.
“This is a pretty prestigious award for us, to go up against some of the best wines domestically,” said Art McIntosh, a co-owner of the family winery.
More than 6,800 wines from around the country were entered in the January competition. Wines are judged by a panel of experts selected from the major American wine regions. They blind taste the wines and then meet to discuss the ratings they give each one. Lindsay Creek also won a gold medal for its 2014 Sweet Riesling and silver for its 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon at the competition.
Winners are featured in a 30-page special wine section published by the San Francisco Chronicle. McIntosh said they’ve noticed an increased demand for the 2013 Merlot since winning the award. They’re working to get their 2014 Merlot in the bottle to meet the demand.
Other Lewiston-Clarkston Valley wineries also took some awards at the festival. Clearwater Canyon Cellars in Lewiston won a double gold medal, which is a unanimous gold medal vote by the judging committee; and Basalt Cellars of Clarkston won two gold medals.
