Work by Moscow filmmakers took top honors at the Sun Valley Film Festival in March.

Moscow filmmaker Martin McGreevy and his creative partner Eve Weston won the Gem State Award for the best film shot in Idaho for the first episode in a series titled, “Mar.” The award recognizes an Idaho filmmaker whose work best reflects the beauty and diversity of the state.

The project was shot over the past year, McGreevy said. The first episode is done and two others are nearly completed. It stars Weston as the main character, a mysterious healer named Ma. Weston also serves as as co-creator, co-writer, co-producer and co-editor. An Idaho Commission on the Arts grant helped fund the project.

Another version of “Mar” received notice in 2016 as a 10-minute short film accepted and shown at Festival De Cannes. That version was made by McGreevey and Jace Wrigley.

McGreevey is a self-taught filmmaker and University of Idaho graduate. He said he now plans to submit “Mar” to as many film festivals as possible. Click here to see a trailer.
