My butterfly

This butterfly visited my garden pausing for a portrait on my rhododendron on July 10th. I looked for the lovely design on line but couldn't match the species. It measured almost 4" across the top from orange edge to orange edge. Maybe a reader will be able to identify it. It rested for about ten minutes and then left - haven't seen it since.

An osprey family has tended a nest for months and with success. Three rambunctious and hungry chicks await the return of the father with fish while the mother remains ever vigilant. Photo taken on Aug. 5, 2018, by Nan Vance on Silcott Island on Lower Granite Lake west of Clarkston, Wa.

It is the true sign of spring on Moscow Mountain east of Moscow. Karen Purtee took this photo in her yard on April 29 when her forsythia welcomed nesting blue birds and tree swallows.
David Purtee, Col. USAF retired, and Lee Ann Mingo prep the entry wreaths. The public is welcome at a ceremony for laying of the wreaths at the Burnt Ridge Cemetery at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 17. A repeat ceremony will be held at Beulah Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. the same day. The other cemeteries will be decorated with wreaths at the entrance and on sponsored veterans’ graves. Due to snow conditions in the rural areas, no ceremonies are scheduled.
The bright yellow field was snapped on the 4th of July between Pullman and Moscow. This canola seed is almost ready for harvest. The relative of the mustard seed will be turned into canola oil and jet engine oil. It was an exciting addition to the local farming choices when back in the 1960s because it is also referred to as Rape Seed with kids laughingly yelling "Rape"
Burnt Ridge Cemetery shines with Christmas season wreaths and red bows its U. S. Veterans with Wreaths Across America Program wreaths for each veteran's gravesite. A simple ceremony with a small audience was held on Saturday, December 17th, under a clear sky. The Troy Historical Society sponsored the project for the seven rural cemeteries in the Troy Cemetery District.
