There’s one week left to make nominations for the Latah County Human Rights Task Force’s 2023 Rosa Parks Human Rights Achievement Awards.
The deadline for nominations is next Thursday, Jan. 5, after which two recipients will be selected for the annual awards, to be presented Jan. 21 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Human Rights Community Breakfast.
One award is given to a Latah County nominee with a history of commitment and achievement in the field of human rights for the community. A student award is presented to a high school or university student, or another young person, who has shown promise in the field of human rights.
The criteria include length of active participation in human rights causes, a record of leadership and accomplishment, and manifestations of special courage and commitment in opposing bigotry and celebrating diversity, according to a task force news release.
Nominations can be made by sending a one-page letter describing the individual’s accomplishments and background to Latah County Human Rights Task Force, Box 8613, Moscow, ID 83843, or e-mailing chairperson Joann Muneta at jmuneta@uidaho.edu.
- Contest entries for the task force’s annual art and essay contest, with the theme “The Value of Community,” are due Jan. 31.
Detailed descriptions of entry criteria for students in early elementary, later elementary, middle school and high school are at bit.ly/ArtsEssayContest. Entries can be mailed to the task force at the address above.
