Lewis Clark Animal Shelter is hosting a doggy day of fun on Sunday with two fundraising events to benefit its shelter animals.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., all dogs big and small are welcome at Paws in the Park, at Granite Lake Park in Clarkston. Attractions include a doggy fun zone, local vendors, food and kids’ activities.

At 12:15 p.m., pets will face off to win contests like “Prettiest Pooch,” “Handsome Hound” and “Best Trick.” There will also be an opportunity to compete in a peanut butter eating contest, according to Becky Sturmer, development director at the shelter.

After the festival, participants are invited to head over to Riverport Brewing for Woofstock from 1 to 4 p.m. There will be music, raffles and brews, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to support the shelter.

In addition to providing fun times for families and dogs, Paws in the Park will offer microchipping for $20, said Sturmer. Microchips help reunite lost pets with their owners, one of Lewis Clark Animal Shelter’s foremost goals.

The Lewiston-based animal shelter is a nonprofit organization which strives to promote the humane treatment of animals and prevent animal cruelty, as well as provide education and spay and neuter services.

Both Paws in the Park and Woofstock are free to attend, though cash donations are accepted, as well as pet supplies such as dog and cat food and other items.
